CASE STUDY: SANTANDER
Santander UK plc, part of the Santander Group, is a leading financial services provider in the UK with its commercial banking headquarters based in Liverpool City Region, since 2008.
In 2019, Santander strengthened and renewed its commitment to the region by announcing the development of a new £75 million Santander headquarters, replacing the current building with a new, state-of-the-art structure.
Described as a high-quality and highly sustainable, environmentally friendly office, together with a new public park and public pavilions, the headquarters will accommodate a range of functions including the UK centre for Santander Commercial banking; IT functions; customer services and a processing centre. Work on the site is expected to commence in 2020 and be complete by 2022.
More than 2,000 staff are employed at the site with the new structure providing capacity for 500 more employees, in one of Santander’s largest offices in the UK and Santander has also recently chose Liverpool as the location for its first national incubator for fast-growth small firms. Andrew Mulliner, Director, Large Corporate Group, Santander said:
“We currently employ close to 2,000 staff in Liverpool City Region and our experience in attracting and retaining high quality staff to work for us here is excellent. There is a sustainable pool of talent on which to draw and the city has a vibrant business and professional services network.”
Nick Roberts, head of property at Santander UK, said:
“We’re really pleased that our plans to invest in a new state-of-the-art campus in Liverpool City Region’s Bootle have been approved by Sefton Council.
“This is an exciting next step in the development of our new contact centre and operations hub for Santander UK. It will not only give our colleagues a cutting-edge working environment but will also have the potential to become a hub for the local area, reaffirming our long-term commitment and support for the local community.”
