Liverpool LEP Creates Built Environment Panel

17th June 2020

Liverpool local enterprise partnership has compiled a board of experts to advise on built environment issues and economic growth across the city region.

Peter Grieve Robertson

The panel is headed by Peter Grieve, operations director for the North West at construction firm Robertson, who will serve as chairman of the panel, named the Built Environment Board for the Liverpool City Region.

Grieve joined Robertson from Laing O’Rourke in 2018. The board comprises 22 other senior leaders from across the public and private sector built environment communities, including construction, architecture, engineering, planning, social enterprise and development, the Liverpool City Region LEP said in a statement.

In the short term, the board will focus on the city region’s economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. However, it will also look at strategies for longer term growth, productivity and competitiveness using the built environment – property, regeneration and infrastructure – as tools for sustainable growth.

It will aim to draw up a strategic plan for the region’s built environment activity over the years ahead. The board will also look at ways of accessing national and regional funding streams to support its goals. Grieve said:

“The built environment agenda is an important one, but now more than ever, in a pandemic crisis and beyond, it is vital that we can support and guide the city region in moving forward in its growth.

“[Our] board members have a vast range of experience and diversity from across the city region and provide a wealth of knowledge to draw upon.”

Asif Hamid, chair of the Liverpool City Region LEP, and Sophie Sudworth, decarbonisation engagement manager at utilities provider SP Energy Networks, are among the other panels members, listed on the LEP’s website. Hamid said:

“This board will provide stability and a support platform across all sectors and develop a strong, sustainable vision and plan for the future of the built environment across the region.”

Sudworth added: “I represent a critical electricity infrastructure business that is ready to support construction and regeneration to accelerate the move towards a green future.

“The environmental and economic benefits of a green economy are huge, and I look forward to contributing as part of the board.”

The panel will meet on a regular basis to draw up its strategy in the months ahead.
