Metro Mayor Announces New Network for LCR Residents Aged 55 and Over
Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, has announced the establishment of the new network for Liverpool City Region residents aged 55 and above, which will help shape the policies that affect their future.
Network 55+ is open to anyone living in the Liverpool City Region aged 55 and over. The network will operate primarily online, through surveys, webinars and other online meetings, and is working closely with local community groups to ensure those without internet access can get involved.
The Liverpool City Region recently joined the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities, made up of cities, towns and counties working together to share learning and examples of age-friendly practices.
One of the first tasks for the new Network will be to advise and help shape an action plan as Liverpool City Region bids to join the World Health Organisation Age-Friendly Communities.
Speaking about the network, Mayor Rotheram said:
“I want the Liverpool City Region to be the best possible place to age in the country and to achieve that we must listen to all of our diverse communities.
“This new network will complement the work of existing groups across the city region that are already affiliated to the LCR Age Friendly Network and will help ensure that we have a socially and geographically representative group.
“We have already taken specific steps to support older people in our society, including the most generous concessionary travel scheme outside London, ensuring our brand-new fleet of publicly owned trains will be the most accessible in the country, and consulting directly with older people’s groups when developing our Local Industrial Strategy and our Spatial Development Strategy.
“I’d encourage everyone aged 55 and above to join this new network to have their say on the issues that are important to them.”
