Put a face and a story behind a name. We asked Mi to briefly explain her role. So grab a coffee and have a quick read.

I moved from China to take up this brand new position with Invest Liverpool, March 2017. Six months passed, I am still excited about my role, and the prospects of further collaboration between Liverpool and China.

Before joining Invest Liverpool, I worked in various positions for the Department of International Trade (Former UK Trade & Investment) and British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in Chongqing, China.  My roles included supporting Chinese firms to invest in the UK, and assisting British businesses win contracts and lobby cases in China.

In my capacity as the Head of China Affairs, FCO Chongqing, I worked closely with Invest Liverpool to forge the city’s links with Southwest China, and spent a few weeks in Liverpool June 2016 to look after the three Chinese delegations I brought to the International Festival for Business. During that time, I was deeply impressed by the city’s rich offer, its commitment to China and enjoyed working as part of the Invest Liverpool team. That experience later motivated me to leave my comfort zone in China to work for the city I feel passionate about.

Jointly funded by Liverpool and Wirral Council, my role is to attract Chinese investment to Liverpool City Region, and to support local companies to win contracts with Chinese investors. I also drive Liverpool’s link with China by promoting city-to-city links, and by managing Liverpool China Partnership, a consortium of private companies, public organisations and academics that have keen interests in developing links with China. I travel regularly to China, but also within the UK to attract existing Chinese companies to Liverpool.

Outside of work, I enjoy painting, journaling and outdoor activities. I love the beautiful beaches in Wirral and the amazing architecture in Liverpool, which gives me great inspiration for my art creation.

So this is a little bit about me and my role. Thank you for your time and hope you’ve enjoyed the read. If you have any questions regarding Liverpool City Region’s China work, be free to get in touch via email [email protected] or 0151 600 2904.
